There has been a generous outpouring of support since the news broke about the mares and foals rescued from Carnation. We are extremely grateful for all the donations, as well as all the kind words that have come along with them. It is wonderful to realize that so many people care about what happened to these horses, and are willing to help them on the road to recovery.

In a card that read: even from a dark night…songs of beauty can be born.: Thank you so much for saving so many neglected horses. You and all the volunteers are appreciated more than you can know. I am deeply saddened by so many recent animal neglect stories, but I am grateful for organizations like SAFE. Keep up the great work; you are an inspiration of hope. May Phoenix rise strong and healthy along with the other horses.

Please accept this check for the care of the mares and foals from the recent Carnation seizure. I am heartbroken over this situation and wish I could do more -- and perhaps I can a month or so from now. I will keep your address on hand and help out when I can.
Horses were a very important part of my life when I was a teenager -- my dad grew up with them in North Dakota -- and passed on his love of these wonderful creatures to me and my sisters. I had a buckskin mare that looked so much like Willow and it pains me so much to see her this way -- having to nurse her young foal with no nourishment herself.
What you do for the abused and neglected horses is so admirable and we are so lucky that there are people like you out there who have the means and wherewithal to step up to the plate and do something to help these poor animals. I am confident that with your care they will all one day be healthy, happy and run with the wind. Thank you so much.
Kathy W. and Theresa H. of Seattle WA
I learned about SAFE from the news reports of the rescued horses in Carnation. As a former horse owner and an animal lover, I am grateful that there are committed folks like you taking on these challenges with little financial support but lots of volunteer hours. Your website is great, good storytelling, thorough financial information, and a fine (though sad) example of true transparency. Thanks for the work you do.

I saw the news about your rescue work with the starving/abandoned horse. Thanks for all you are doing. The enclosed donation should be enough to feed one horse for at least a couple of weeks, according to my friends who know a lot more about horses. Wishing you all the best, in caring for these horses and prosecuting the not-so-human(s) who created this horrible situation.

Could you please use this money for the rehab of the Carnation horses? Thanks.
Linnorh G. of Bellevue WA
Please find enclosed a cheque donation for $100 towards care for the horses that were mistreated by this Jean Elledge. I was appalled to think a person could be so heartless. My dearest neighbor friend, who has been fighting cancer for years, sent me a $50 cheque to celebrate her 50th year, and to spend in any manner I wished to do so. I decided to match her $50 and this is the reason you are receiving $100 total amount. This in some small way is a big thank you to all who are involved for the time you give to these wonderful animals.
The message from Linnorh's friend includes the following: I'm giving you $50. Each dollar represents a year of this amazing life that I'm so grateful for. Please do some serious pondering and decide on a place or way to donate/use it. Help the Animals! Feed the Starving! Save the Rainforest! Don't hesitate to be creative! You don't need to credit your benevolence to me or anyone else. This can be completely undisclosed and undesignated. You need only tell me what you did if you'd like to share. Thank you for helping me celebrate this important birthday.

Parrot Heads are a worldwide organization dedicated to the tropical lifestyle depicted in the songs of Jimmy Buffett...together we have a good time and do whatever we can to give back to our community...these are not necessarily horse people but their hearts were touched when I shared with them the story of the horses...the party on March 16 included a silent auction and raffle...I made up some yummy Trader Joes bags with gift certificates, members donated some fun items and my son who works at Horizon Air donated a set of passes...the band donated their tips and we had a few flat out donations as well...I am so thrilled to be able to help out this way and look forward to watching the progress of the horses and especially little Kokomo who already feels like part of the family. He's in my thoughts every day. I've even told my mare Coconut that she has a baby brother in spirit! Thank you so much for everything you are doing for these and all the other horses in your care. You are the angels they've been waiting for. I am in awe of what you do.
