Equine Aid, the rescue who initially took in four of the horses from the Carnation seizure -- Dutchess, Annie, Emma, and Holly -- turned them over to SAFE after the critical first two weeks following their rescue. We are very grateful to Equine Aid and Geri Vincent (and her kind neighbor, who donated use of her pasture!) for taking such good care of these girls!
Dutchess is a pretty Palomino Saddlebred cross filly. At the time of her resuce she was thin, but not as bad as Hope or Willow. Her feet were pretty bad, all have been trimmed as of March 10. Dutchess is a total love bug of a mare and loves people and attention. On the day she moved to her new foster home, she loaded like a champ and patiently waited for Annie to get in the trailer, which took about an hour. The two mares are now at a foster home in Sultan.
Update (5/8/08):
Dutchess continues to thrive in her foster home. She is best friends with Annie, and the two of them keep each other happy and calm. Dutchess has shed out to be a beautiful dappled Palomino. She continues to be very sweet and friendly. She is showing signs of being pregnant...hopefully that is not the case.
Update (8/1/08):
Dutchess and her old friend Emma have been adopted! They are now living on a beautiful property out in Chimicum WA with a couple who adore them. They now spend their days grazing, napping in the sun, and growing up.
