Haley (formerly Angel) is a 12 year old TB mare that was surrendered to SAFE, as her owner was having trouble affording her feed (she was being fed 6 loaves of bread a day). Haley came to us with feet in terrible shape, and a recent injury on a front foot from getting her foot caught in a fence.
She's a beautiful dark bay mare, very big (probably 16.2-16.3) and big boned, with a beautiful eye and nice conformation. Her weight is actually good and the injury is fairly superficial. She loaded well but was not a good hauler and the short journey was fairly rocky, and she was drenched in sweat when we got there. However, she stood quietly for a cool shower and seems very sensible and sweet, although she does not like having her injured foot handled.
She is trotting sound, and apparantly is great on trails, and does have jockey club papers (Registered Name "No Halo for Me").
Haley has had her teeth floated and her vaccinations administered. Her feet have been trimmed, she's been wormed, and she has been palpated to determine that she is not pregnant.
Haley has been saddled and bridled with no problems, and appears to know how to lunge as well. She has been ridden by SAFE volunteers who found her to be balky and pretty green under saddle. Therefore, Haley's adopter must be an advanced rider, preferably one with OTTB experience.
