Direct Intervention

Direct intervention horse rescue is the heart of SAFE's mission. SAFE is devoted to rescuing horses who are at risk of being sent to slaughter or in danger of neglect or abuse. We are deeply committed to the horses that we save, and the donations we receive are spent to care for these horses while we work to find homes for them. We provide all of our horses with needed veterinary care, farrier services, blankets, supplements, and nutrition. We evaluate our horses to discover their strengths and suitabilities, and we provide many of our horses with additional training to help ensure them a safe and productive future.

Once these horses are ready to go to their permanent homes, SAFE undertakes a rigorous screening process to find ideal placements for them. We carefully review applications, check references, and conduct site visits. Our horses are adopted out under contracts, and we remain vigilant as to each horse's well-being throughout its lifetime.

100% of the money raised through donations goes to the care of our horses.

We have obtained horses from feedlots, auctions, owner surrenders, and seizures. Visit our Placed Horses page to see the faces of the many horses that have passed through our organization on their way to their forever homes.
