Renee and her five herdmates were surrendered to SAFE by their owner, who was no longer physically or financially able to properly care for them. The horses were in decent weight but had not had farrier or dental care in some time. The horses have all been trimmed by SAFE’s farrier Daphne Jones, and despite their badly overgrown hooves, we are confident that they will fully recover from their neglect. Renee is reportedly extremely well trained and very skilled both in the arena and on the trails. However, we will need to evaluate her physical and mental state before deciding that she can be adopted as a riding horse. Her previous owner reported that she has a temper and is very sensitive about being touched on certain areas so we are handling her carefully until we get to know her better.
All SAFE horses are adopted with a no-breeding clause, no exceptions. Renee will be offered for adoption as a riding horse or a companion horse only. Renee’s adoption fee will be determined once we have fully assessed her and determined if she can safely be ridden.
