Cali and her five herdmates were surrendered to SAFE by their owner, who was no longer physically or financially able to properly care for them. The horses were in decent weight but had not had farrier or dental care in some time. Cali came in with a badly broken molar that was impacted and infected, that had gone undetected due to lack of dental care. The tooth was successfully removed by SAFE’s veterinarian. Cali is 17 years old and we were told that she had never been trimmed, shod, tied, sacked, or ridden. Clearly she is a horse who will benefit from SAFE’s training program as well as our vet care program!
All SAFE horses are adopted with a no-breeding clause, no exceptions. Cali will be offered for adoption as a riding horse or a companion horse only. Cali’s adoption fee will be determined once we have fully assessed her and determined if she will benefit from under saddle training.
