ADOPTED!! by Stefanie

Inky was living alone on a property after his owner had passed away and left him in the care of family members who were unfamiliar with how to properly care for horses. He came to us by way of animal control in April of 2025, where he was brought up to date on his medical and farrier care. We knew this sweetheart would not stick around for long, and sure enough, just about a month later in May of 2025, Stefanie came to bring him home. He is living his best life with his big horse companions and human family.

Inky is Adopted!

Inky is Adopted!

When a cute guy like Inky comes through SAFE, we know that he won’t stick around for long. His petite stature coupled with his sweet personality made Inky a hot ticket item — as soon as he got up to date on his vet and farrier and passed his intake quarantine, the list of people who wanted to meet him was already quite long. Inky played the dating game with potential adopters, but when he met Stefanie, they both knew it was a match. So after a short but very sweet month with us, Inky moved to Stefanie’s beautiful home on Bainbridge, becoming an island boy alongside her three other geldings. He took no time to settle in, and made himself right at home, telling us what we already knew: this was meant to be. We are happy to announce that Inky is now officially a member of Stefanie’s family! Congratulations, Inky!

Here’s what Stefanie has to say about this guy:

Inky has settled in like he has been with us for his whole life. He and my Gypsy are best buddies and love nuzzling along their shared fence. All in all, I am so delighted he is part of my herd!”

Inky’s Intro to Sunny

Inky’s Intro to Sunny

Inky had been living alone for some time before he got to SAFE, so we really had no indication of how he would be with other horses. Due to the fact that he was to be adopted out as a companion horse, it was important for us to be able to see his interactions in order to best inform adopters how he might fit into their herd. We introduced him to our resident mini Sunny for a few play dates, and quickly discovered that apart from being dramatic, Inky was all bark and no bite.

We were also pleased to see how Sunny reacted to his shenanigans. Once upon a time, Sunny would have definitely had something to say about Inky’s behavior, but in his wiser years, he has become extremely tolerant. Way to go, Sunny!

Introducing Inky

Introducing Inky

We welcomed our newest herd member to SAFE last week, a miniature horse gelding named Inky. Inky came to us by way of Pierce County Animal Control, and had a whirlwind first few days following his arrival. By his third day here, he was already up to date on his vet and farrier care, taking all of it in stride. Inky is a sweet little guy who is as easy to look at as he is to handle.

At last year’s Heart of the Horse, we auctioned off an ‘intake experience’ — a chance to ride along on the day of a pick-up and be a part of a horse’s first day at SAFE. Carolyn, the winner of this experience, went along to bring Inky to SAFE. She is also responsible for his cute name! Aside from helping with his intake, over the last week that Inky has been here, Carolyn has been visiting Inky nearly every day to dote on and pamper him: grooming, bathing, and even taking him for walks — keeping in line with our new intake quarantine protocols, of course. He is truly getting the warmest of welcomes!
