ADOPTED!! by Samantha F
After circumstances in his family changed, Po (formerly known as Oreo) came to SAFE alongside his mare companion, Bridgit, in search of a new situation. When you are are cute as he is, you don’t stay on the shelf for long, and indeed after only a month at SAFE, Po was onto his new home! He currently is living with his near twin miniature horse friend Ladigo, and the two are thick as thieves.

Alumni Update: Po & Ladigo — BFFs
Po and Ladigo, in addition to being near twins in appearance, are also inseparable. Po, who was always playing second fiddle to the large and in charge Bridgit, has found his voice with his new buddy, and is the head mini in charge! He is coming out of his shell more and more each day in his new home. Here’s what Samantha has to say about him: “He’s just the sweeeeetest boy!! Today he finally showed me where he likes to be scratched and had the big stretched out lips and was leaning and rocking into the scratches.
And he’s turned out to be the boss! He pushes Ladigo all over the place which I love. Means he gets the food when he wants it.”
Po’s Story
After his human’s family circumstances changed, Po (formerly known as Oreo) made his way to SAFE alongside his mare friend, and alumna, Bridgit. The pair came for a temporary stay, the intention being to assist their former owner in rehoming them both. While it was determined that Bridgit needed to hang out with us for a bit longer than originally anticipated, cute little Oreo was ready to find his new digs.
And find them he did! When Samantha came looking for a companion for her own mini, Ladigo, we suspected that Oreo might be the right fit. Samantha had been in and around SAFE’s community for several years, helping another of our little minis (Sugar, now Ko) connect with his family, and participating in a number of Joel Conner clinics, so even though the turnaround time on this adoption was quick, we knew that it would be a good match.
Oreo is a sweet, but sensitive boy, and Samantha was ready and willing to understand and adjust to his timeline and needs. She and her partner called him ‘Po’ after ‘Po Campo,’ a favorite character of theirs from the western novel Lonesome Dove.
Even though he was never technically an intake, we will follow Po through the rest of his life as we would any alumni, and check up on him annually. Po has really landed the jackpot in his new home, and with his new brother, Ladigo, who could be his twin! We love when the stars align like this, and couldn’t be happier for our little friend!
