Alumni Update: Lacey
Lacey is doing well and seems to be thriving in an environment where she is one-on-one with a handler and has only one stable mate, Cameo, also a SAFE alumnus. Her adopter, Janelle does not ride Lacey, however, she spends a lot of time with her and in the last two…
Alumni Update: Nyx
Lindsay and Nyx are doing well. Nyx is 19 this year and still very healthy and willing to go for rides. Nyx also loves hanging out at the barn with his stable mate, Squish, who is Lindsay’s husband’s horse. Nyx is a lucky boy. Lindsay takes Nyx out on trail rides…
Alumni Update: Aries
Aries is living her best life in Montana and is loved by anyone who meets her! She enjoys trail riding and loves jumping!
Ovaries No More-varies (Junie)
Sweet Junie was dealt an unfortunate hand when it came to her mare parts — those with ovaries can probably relate, though Junie’s ‘time of the month’ was most of the time, most of the month. We started Junie on Regumate immediately after her arrival at SAFE, but…
Welcoming Wilma and Stanley
Sometimes horses come to SAFE through a very public crisis. Other times, our involvement happens a little more quietly. Recently, Animal Control was responding to a situation involving a number of equines. While we can’t share details about the ongoing cases, Animal…
Eda is Adopted!
Eda is sweet. Eda is smart. Eda is adopted! Eda, one of the horses seized alongside over 500 roosters in an animal control seizure early last year (what we refer to as the Valentine Herd), arrived at SAFE having just weaned her foal, despite being a youthful three…
Ranger Rocks!
Good old Ranger really has it all: brains, beauty, and if not brawn exactly, then definitely a youthful spirit and joie de vivre. Ranger runs and plays with the energy of a horse half his age — just ask Vinnie, who at just one and a half can have a hard time keeping…
September Volunteer of the Month: Couren Smith
Congratulations to our September Volunteer of the Month, Couren Smith! At SAFE, our 250+ volunteers are truly the heart of our community. We can really only do what we do because of our amazingly generous volunteers! This month we are celebrating a truly dedicated…
Alumni Update: Ruby
Ruby has a wonderful life. She shares her pasture with two other horses as well as sheep and goats. For fun, she and Sophia go on light trail rides. The rest of her time is spent looking beautiful among her many pasture mates.
A Tale of Teeth (Wilma)
Wilma arrived at SAFE to a chorus of oohs and aahs — it’s not every day that we get to save a forgotten long-eared equine. Our visual checks on intake clued us in to her most pressing care needs: long hooves, visible ribs. But it wasn’t until we offered her a welcome…
