SAFE’s promise to our alumni is that they will be safe, forever.
Quincy’s adopter’s life circumstances had changed, and in the long term she would be unable to support Quincy and his herdmate, Thistledown. She asked for our help to rehome them — an incredibly difficult but selfless choice for the horses. Despite not being a SAFE horse, by virtue of her association with Quincy, we wanted to keep Thistle together with her buddy, and put out a call for a new home for them both.
Erin and Jeff answered that call. The couple came to meet Quincy and Thistle at their current home, and spent an afternoon getting to know them. Thistle is a real sweetheart who received a wonderful upbringing and life with her current home. Quincy, who has come a very long way from the flighty and difficult to catch little pony he once was, still requires a patient and understanding touch. Erin and Jeff met Quincy right where he was at. Jeff told us that one of his favorite pastimes is to sit in the paddock with a cold beverage and just hang out with their herd, an activity that would suit a sensitive soul like Quincy just fine.
It didn’t take Erin and Jeff too long to decide that they would like to take both Quincy and Thistle home. They outfitted their space perfectly to be able to have an area for their smaller horses – now numbering three – to have a space of their own away from their larger horses. Since bringing them home, Erin and Jeff have been enjoying having Quincy and Thistle — and it certainly seems that the feeling is mutual! Quincy has been allowing himself to be caught and brushed, and is looking just as handsome as ever. We stand by the fact that our lifetime of safety is just that — a lifetime. Happy trails, Quincy and Thistle!
