Jewel had a saddling issue over 1.5 years ago and has had to be restarted. With Joel Conner’s suggestions she has been working slowly. For the first year Julie has been working on using a bare back pad with stirrups and finally was able to cinch her up. In the last 6 months she has been able to get her saddle on her but has not cinched her up yet. Julie says it is taking a lot of patience on her part because she wants to be able to get back to trail riding Jewel and doing all the things that they used to do. But she doesn’t want any setbacks.
Jewel’s current favorite thing is to sunbathe. Her bathing is getting longer and longer. Recently, Julie took her into the round pen and had to wait about 30 minutes for her to wake up and get her tongue back in her mouth before she was ready to get up and work.
Julie had started Korra under saddle a bit more than a year ago and got a few rides on her. She hauled her out last summer and did some local riding. She tends to be a bit round and has to have her hay weighed and limited. Due to this, Korra has taken up yoga to get as far under the fence as possible for any tidbits of extra grass as she is sure she is being starved to death by Julie.
