Sarah provided us with a six-month adoption update on Poppy, now called Gracie..

Six months have flown by, and it feels like Gracie and I have achieved so much. I finally feel as though Gracie and I both trust each other. Gracie’s schedule currently includes:

  • - Walk, Trot, Canter Lessons with me, taught by KC.
  • - Trail Riding! We just started this and she loves it. KC and I have taken her out a few times, making sure each experience is positive. She’s gotten great at trailering.
  • - Groundwork lessons. She decided two months ago that she hates standing at the mounting block. After trying several different techniques, I think we’re finally past that hurdle. I also had a groundwork trainer work with me on establishing boundaries that build her confidence on the ground. Our trust in each other grew a lot after these sessions.
  • - Massages. I have a massage therapist working with Gracie regularly. This has helped balance her gait and is addressing some tension she carries in her front legs. She was skeptical at first but now loves her sessions.
  • - Charming the farrier. My farrier asked if I could make sure every horse I adopt has feet as good as Gracie’s.
  • - Hanging with her brothers. She gets pasture time every day with Milton and Amigo and greatly enjoys bossing them around.

It’s been a journey, but I really wouldn’t trade this experience. I would say it took a good 4 months for her to settle in. Suddenly I realized we were both enjoying and trusting each other, and that’s been so fun.

I will always welcome a visit from SAFE! I’m looking forward to your team seeing her at her annual check-in. I attached some current photos.
