length of time with SAFE: 9 months
ADOPTED by Bryan & Lauren E of North Bend WA
King was seized from his owner by Pierce Co Animal Control after he was discovered tied to tree and starving. He was held in Animal Control custody for nearly 7 months while his owner petitioned the court for his return. Once ownership was signed over to the county, he was offered for adoption and quickly placed; however his new owners returned him, saying that he displayed aggressive behavior. PCAC turned to SAFE for help. Despite what we’d been told about him, we found him to be relatively docile and respectful when handled correctly. Nevertheless we proceeded with caution. King was steady and well‐behaved in our care, and we never saw signs of aggression. King was started under saddle by Joel Conner, and did very well in training.
King had barely just returned to SAFE when several terrific adopters put in applications to take him. Choosing just one was hard, but King now has a home for life with Bryan and Lauren Engle, who already have one SAFE horse in their barn: the fabulous Phoenix!! The Engles were looking for a horse for Bryan, and after working with him in a Joel Conner clinic, Bryan knew that King was the one. Now known as Denton, this handsome gelding is currently at Joel Conner’s Ellenburg ranch where Bryan takes regular lessons on him. The Engles are searching for horse property, but until they find a place to settle down, Denton and Phoenix (who are GREAT friends!) will remain in training with Joel. The love that Lauren and Bryan have for these two boys is so wonderful and we are thrilled that they will both be remaining in the family!
