Beautiful Mahina delights onlookers when she trots around with her head up high and her tail held askew, but to us Mahina is at her finest when she is long and low, exploring what it’s like to carry herself with a little more balance. But, okay, it has to be said that that “saddlebred” stance can look quite lovely at times, very model-esque.
But Mahina is as silly as she is elegant — perhaps more of the former. When you find a spot she likes to be itched, she cranes her neck heavenward, resembling a landlocked loch ness monster. And if you’re not around to itch her, then she’ll do it herself, contorting her body in the most impressive arrays, itching between her ears with the tip of her back hoof, delicately.
This silly, noodly mare has been enjoying the nice weather by accompanying us on walks around the neighborhood. We have traded park trails for quiet residential streets, and have enjoyed the time spent taking in the sights and sounds around our home. Mahina appreciates the human support (and she is a horse who does get a good deal of comfort from people) but is, for the most part, a brave girl, even in the face of strange mail boxes and noisy trucks passing by.
