One of our Alumni volunteers had a recent visit with Mason and Scarlett and their adopter Lori. She shared the following:
Mason and Scarlett are two happily retired equines at Lori’s. Mason is still a gorgeous gelding adored by Lori. From his beginning at SAFE, she was smitten. He had some difficult behavior issues; Lori wasn’t dissuaded and was determined to partner with him as a companion. She adopted him as soon as her farm was set up for him. Her patience and deep connection with him have been rewarded over the years with admirable loyalty and trust in her. It’s lovely to witness. (Mason got up from his nap to come across the field to Lori.)
Scarlett was adopted as a light-riding horse and for the first two or three years with Lori, Scarlett was a trail horse. She has since been retired except for an occasional walk about with a younger volunteer. She’s a sweetheart mare who’s beginning to show her age.
Both Mason and Scarlett share their big space with Domingo and Sabra. Both horses have regular grooming sessions with volunteers and are clearly well loved. Lori has a solid and lovely connection with both horses.
