We received an update on Mirana from her adopter this summer. Mirana was adopted at the same time as her current herd mate, Cal who is not a SAFE horse.
Mirana has adapted well to the new environment. She is very good for our farrier (both of them are), and she follows me around when I do the morning and evening routines as if to check and make sure I am doing everything correctly. She is a bit of a Houdini in that there have been 3 or 4 times that she has opened gates (that were not completely latched by me) and led Cal out into the big pasture. Luckily, we have a gate by the property line so they are never in danger of having access to a public road. But, it is always a shock to the adrenaline to see your horses grazing on the lawn before you have had your first cup of coffee!
One of Mirana’s perks is that she is allowed out in the big pasture while Cal is in his stall eating grain in the morning. At first, Mirana would not go far from Cal, but she is gradually learning that the gate stays open and she can return at any time. It is so fun to see her kick and buck on her way back to Cal when he nickers for her.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I love sharing my life with these two horses. They can be a lot of work, especially in the rainy winter months, but the quiet joy and contentment I feel when I am around them is indescribable.
