Congratulations to our August Volunteer of the Month, Marion Kerviche!

Marion began volunteering at SAFE in 2025 and quickly took to our community! Marion brings kindness, willingness, and an ever-present smile everywhere she goes. Her hardworking spirit and welcoming nature make everyone feel at home, and she’s always the first to raise her hand whenever something needs doing. Whether she’s taking on a new challenge or supporting her fellow volunteers, she wears many hats with grace and positivity. She has been a Shift Lead, Barn Assist, and a member of the Grooming program team. Most recently, she joined the Alumni team, bringing her infectious enthusiasm and can-do attitude to new heights. We are truly grateful for her dedication and bright presence in our community!

Thank you, Marion, for all that you do!

Learn more about Marion below:

How and when did you first get involved with horses?
I’ve been around horses on and off all my life, riding and volunteering at a hippo-therapy/therapeutic riding center. I stopped riding years ago and wanted to get back into the horse world when I moved to Washington.

Do you have one now you want to tell us about?
I don’t currently have a horse and don’t foresee adopting/buying one. But never say never! There could come a day when I can’t resist.

What do you like most about volunteering with SAFE?
The horses and the people! As I like to say: I get my horse fix when I come to the barn! And everyone I’ve ever met here has always been incredible. The volunteers always bring such great energy and camaraderie. SAFE (as the name suggests) has become my happy place.

Do you have a favorite SAFE horse? If so, why?
Can’t all horses be my favorite? If I had to choose, I’d go with Alvaro, Theo, and Esme. Alvaro reminds me of my heart dog and he has that little something that kept pulling me in. Theo has that goofy-boy energy that always makes me smile and cheers me up. And I see my younger self reflected in Esme and she also reminds me to slow down and breathe.

What do you do when you are not horsing around with us?
I like being outside so if I’m not at the barn, you can find me in the mountains all year long. If I’m not there, you can look for me somewhere cozy, reading books and loosing track of time.

Do you have family or special people in your life who support your volunteer work?
I want to thank my parents for always driving me around as a kid, either to my riding lessons or to the therapeutic riding center so I could get my high school volunteer hours and driving practice! I quite literally wouldn’t be here or love horses so much had they not done that.
