Congratulation to our August Volunteer of the Month, Tracy! We are so fortunate Tracy found SAFE, and agreed to start volunteering in one of the coldest, wettest and muddiest times of the year, January (2022)! Every Wednesday PM, Tracey greets us with their warm, welcoming smile and a great attitude. Tracy has been such a dependable and amazing team player, always willing to jump in to help their team (and the horses), filling any needs that must be met! They are very observant and flexible during their shifts, always happy to switch gears when needed; and I’ve been told takes great photos! Thank you Tracy, for being part of what makes SAFE amazing. We are so thankful for all of the love and care you share with our horses and your team! Learn a little more about Tracy below.
How and when did you first get involved with horses? Do you have one now you want to tell us about?
I grew up reading Marguerite Henry’s novels, playing with Breyer horses, and hearing stories about my late aunt’s horse from many years before I was born. I took riding lessons for a few years and attended a few YMCA riding camps, but it wasn’t really something I could keep up once I got busier with school, then college, then a career.

What do you like most about Volunteering at SAFE?
SAFE is extraordinary in its quality of management and communication, and in the incredible scope and volume of work that gets done. It’s a privilege to be a part of, and I love my fellow volunteers–Wednesday PM is exceptionally organized, kind, and fun to spend time with. Plus, breaking up my work week with a little manual labor has been great for my mental and physical health.
Do you have a favorite SAFE horse? If so, why?
My favorite is a recent alumna, Camille! She’s so gentle and beautiful, and it warms my heart so much to know that she gets to enjoy her twilight years in loving comfort.
What do you do when you are not horsing around with us?
I’m an associate producer at Monolith Productions, a Kirkland-based video game studio, and I have too many hobbies: cooking, gardening, cross-stitch, photography, and I’m learning to forage for mushrooms. I also volunteer weekly at MEOW Cat Rescue.
Do you have family or special people in your life who support your volunteer work that you would want us to mention in your write up?
My mother Marnie supports me in everything I do, but in particular she is responsible for my early love of horses and loves to hear updates about the SAFE herd every week!
