SAFE’s commitment to a lifetime of safety means being there for the horses who move through our program, even when it has been several years since they’ve lived at SAFE.

When Bridigt needed to find a new home, we decided that SAFE would be the best stopover point for her before heading onto her next chapter. She spent several months here getting many volunteers to fall in love with her — not a difficult feat considering what a lovely, sociable little mare she is. We were also able to help troubleshoot her ongoing breathing issues and get her started on a nebulizing treatment, something this tolerant sweetheart took to tremendously well.

Susanne, a longtime supporter and previous alumni adopter, fell just as in love with Bridgit as the rest of us who got to know her. With a barn to keep her at and a team to help watch over her, Susanne had all the pieces in place to make the perfect home for this special mare.

At the end of August, Susanne made things official. Bridgit stepped off the trailer and seemed to say ‘I’m home.’ Since then, she has been living the very good life under the watch of Susanne and the cohort of people who are committed to her care.

Here’s what Susanne says about her new charge:

“Brigid Mary (formerly Bridgit) settled in right away on August 31, making friends immediately with the filly in the next stall. She loves her big slice of the pasture where she spends nearly all day, at least in nice weather. I am often there to see the horses come in for the evening feed.

They don’t need persuasion!

And, of course, she comes right away for treats and/or a lovely scratch break.”

Congratulations Bridgit!
