We welcomed our newest herd member to SAFE last week, a miniature horse gelding named Inky. Inky came to us by way of Pierce County Animal Control, and had a whirlwind first few days following his arrival. By his third day here, he was already up to date on his vet and farrier care, taking all of it in stride. Inky is a sweet little guy who is as easy to look at as he is to handle.

At last year’s Heart of the Horse, we auctioned off an ‘intake experience’ — a chance to ride along on the day of a pick-up and be a part of a horse’s first day at SAFE. Carolyn, the winner of this experience, went along to bring Inky to SAFE. She is also responsible for his cute name! Aside from helping with his intake, over the last week that Inky has been here, Carolyn has been visiting Inky nearly every day to dote on and pamper him: grooming, bathing, and even taking him for walks — keeping in line with our new intake quarantine protocols, of course. He is truly getting the warmest of welcomes!
