Dr. Hannah and Phoenix, after his castration

Save A Forgotten Equine (SAFE), in partnership with Equine Aid and Northwest Equine Stewardship Center (NWESC), will be funding another series of low-cost equine castration clinics for qualified applicants. Our next clinic is being held on August 6, 2011. Dr. Hannah Evergreen will be generously donating her services to host this event at the NWESC facility in Monroe, with assistance provided by vet students.

We’ll also be holding one more clinic on October 1. Dr. Evergreen and her colleague Dr. Kelli Taylor will be donating castration services.

The cost to the participant is $50 per castration, and includes the procedure and medications.

Horses will be checked on after the procedure and discharged by the veterinarian after a few hours for recovery, barring any complications. Any follow-up appointments are not included in the cost of the clinic. A limited number of stalls for before and after care are available for $10/day.

Applications are currently being accepted and applicants will be notified prior to the event if their application has been approved. Selections for the clinic are based on financial need or circumstances. All colts/stallions must be halter broke, in good health, with both testicles descended. You also must provide proof of a current Tetanus vaccination or a vaccination will be given at the clinic for an additional cost.
