Congratulations to our April Volunteer of the Month, Laia Solsona-Holmes! We are incredibly fortunate to have had Laia join SAFE way back in September of 2021. Since then, she has been a standout member of the Thursday AM chore team, consistently demonstrating her dedication and enthusiasm. Laia not only fulfills her shifts reliably, but she goes above and beyond in her contributions. Whether it’s assisting with stall cleaning, moving heavy hay bales atop the hay hut, or carrying grain bags with ease, Laia always approaches her tasks with a delightful demeanor and a strong work ethic. Her commitment to helping others is truly commendable. Additionally, Laia exhibits impressive skills and kindness in working with the horses. Thank you, Laia, for all that you share with the horses and people of SAFE! Learn more about Laia below.

How and when did you first get involved with horses? Do you have one now you want to tell us about?

I first got involved with horses when I was 4, I started taking lessons. I first saw a horse when I was two on a vacation to Hawaii and my mother says I was horse obsessed ever since. I had a horse until a few months ago when she had a major injury and needed a retirement home that we were unable to give her.

What do you like most about volunteering with SAFE?

My favorite thing about SAFE is the people; everyone is always so welcoming and friendly.

Do you have a favorite SAFE horse? If so, why?

I could never pick a favorite horse at SAFE; they are all so unique and sweet.

What do you do when you are not horsing around with us?

When I’m not at SAFE, I’m at my lesson barn taking lessons or at home with my animals.

Do you have family or special people in your life who support your volunteer work that you would want us to mention in your write up?

I’m very thankful to my mom who drove me to and from SAFE for about two years until I was able to get my driver’s license and for pushing me to start volunteering.
