No Expectations
One thing I love about SAFE is that we have no expectations or deadlines that our horses have to fulfill for us. We accept them as individuals and recognize that one size doesn’t fit all. As we got to know the Fall City 40 horses better, we found there were many…
Fancy Update
Fancy has been at SAFE for nearly three years. Through the great work by her horsemanship trainers, Fancy has become a trusting and athletic riding horse. As a veteran of both Joel Conner and Buck Brannaman clinics, Fancy has learned to relax around other riding…
Four (more) new ponies at SAFE
A few days back, we introduced three ponies and a full sized horse who were seized by Animal Control due to neglect and signed over to SAFE. Animal Control found four more ponies hidden on the same property, and their owner surrendered them. One of SAFE’s top…

Congratulations and a huge thank you to our February Volunteer of the Month, Sean Cramer!! Sean is the Barn Assist on Thursdays, but also helps in so many other ways. Whether it’s unclogging drains, letting us borrow tractor parts, ripping up pastures or fixing…
Beauty’s First Ride!
Jane and Kaya have been putting a lot of time into getting Beauty ready to be ridden. She’s accepted a saddle with ease, but she’s very reluctant to take a bit into her mouth. So today Kaya got on and rode her in a halter. As you can see, Beauty was just fine about…
SAFE Alumni Update: Cameo and Mara
From Cameo and Mara’s adopter: I have been just terrible about updating on Cameo and Mara and I realized they’ve almost been here a whole year! Such a strange year and time no longer has any meaning but whatever! Anyway they’re doing great! Mara’s eye has been so…
Meet Kayla!
Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston County reached out to SAFE about a mare they had who needed our help. All of their horses live in foster homes and this particular mare, Kayla, was living and training with a foster who could work with her on ground manners and train…
Meet Mac!
Mac and another gelding were seized by Animal Control due to severe neglect. We are told that Mac was almost as thin as Anakin was when he was picked up. He spent several months in Animal Control custody before being signed over to SAFE. We’re told that Mac is an…

Congratulations to our volunteer of the month, Sam Etzel! Sam started volunteering on the Sunday AM team in November 2020 and always jumps on the chance to help out. She was instrumental during the snow last December, donating her time off from work to help care care…
Tiva is Making Friends
Go Tiva!! Last week, she met quite a few new two legged friends and just a couple days ago she let Candi walk up and halter her! We captured it on video so you have to believe us! She’s still a bit shy and can get upset if pushed and doesn’t feel free to move her…
Bijou in the Round Pen
It’s been a busy first few weeks here at SAFE since Bijou arrived. Now off of Quarantine, she had her first set of vaccines, dental float and microchipped. She also got a lovely pair of front shoes from our farrier and was a super star for it! Here is a short little…
Training Update: Nova
Long-legged Nova will celebrate her 4th birthday this November. In the meantime, she has been working on her physique with some trot pole work. We think that Nova has it in her to really take on some fences one day, but for now, we will stick with cavalettis.
Alumni Update: Flynn
Kirsten had this to say about Flynn: “Flynn loves being adored by all the kiddos who come to our farm. I’ve noticed as his confidence has improved as a 1 eyed horse he has helped build the confidence of the more timid kiddo riders! He truly is a special pony with the…
