March Volunteer of the Month: Kyle Putnam

Congratulations to our March Volunteer of the Month, Kyle Putnam!  Kyle has volunteered at the farm doing chores, as well as at the SAFE Benefit Horse Show and most recently as a foster home for SAFE horse Dexter. Please join me in offering Kyle a sincere ā€œThank Youā€ā€¦

Arnie Video

A video of Arnie, being ridden by his owner’s niece, a beginner who hasn’t ridden in a couple of years. This is Arnie’s first ride in a year. What a gem of a horse!

Dexter Update

Here’s an update from Dexter’s foster home: Ultimately, I’ve fallen in love with this little guy. If he was a hand taller or I was a hand shorter, I’d keep him. He’s smart, athletic, tough, and funny, everything I like in a horse. But I do think he deserves a rider…

JR Intake photos

New SAFE horse JR arrived at the farm today. He needs to put on weight, and he’s very muddy from his previous home with a terribly matted tail and bad cracks in his hooves. He’s a remarkably polite horse with great manners. He is going to make someone an awesome…

Oscar and Scooter update, updated!

Shiloh Update

Shiloh has finished 60 days professional training. She’s still very green, but considering she came to us as a barely handled 5 year old, she’s doing very well! She has a sweet nature and a generally calm temperament.

Ego Afire Update

Fire is coming along so nicely! Still working on being balanced at the canter. We love this boy!

(as reported by Ben’s regular rider, Lisa Garr) In December of 2015, Ben and I participated in a clinic at SAFE with trainer Joel Conner and I was just hoping he would stay calm enough to participate safely. Well, he blew me away then with his focus, willingness, and…

Eye Surgery is a Success

We have good news to share: Anakin had his eye surgery done last Thursday and it was a complete success. He spent the night after the surgery at Rainland Farm Equine Clinic so Dr McCracken could watch over him following the procedure, and he was released into our care…

Jessel Medical Update

On February 5th, Jessel sustained a skull fracture while she and Tess were playing in turnout. Radiographs were taken and determined that the fracture was about 2 1/2ā€ long and had slightly dislodged the bone in her face. She was prescribed antibiotics, pain…

Stella Medical Update

On March 24th, Stella came up completely lame on the left hind leg. Dr. McCracken came out and diagnosed her with a peroneus tertius tendon rupture. This tendon is part of the apparatus in the hind limb that coordinates flexion and extension of the stifle and hock.…
