Carnation woman sentenced for letting horses starve

A Carnation woman who allowed several horses to starve to death was sentenced Friday to nine months in jail, a year of community supervision and ordered to no longer care for animals.

Jean Marie Elledge, 57, could have been sentenced to up to one year in prison for the four counts of first-degree animal cruelty, but King County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ramsdell gave her credit for pleading guilty to the charges.

Elledge told the court that she was unaware that the horses she had been caring for were sick and starving. She said in one case she didn’t know a horse was in bad shape because the animal wore a blanket.
